Hillsborough County Fire Rescue Quickly Contains Residential Fire in Wimauma

WIMAUMA, FL – On Friday, February 20, 2026, at 1:21 PM, Hillsborough County Fire Rescue responded to multiple 911 calls reporting a house fire at 6006 Vel Street in Wimauma.

Upon arrival, the first engine found heavy fire coming from the rear of the residential structure. Due to windy and dry conditions, the flames spread to grass in the backyard, rapidly extending into a brush fire and threatening several nearby structures.

Firefighters simultaneously attacked the structure fire, protected exposed nearby buildings, and extinguished the brush fire. The nearby structures sustained only minimal heat damage.

Crews brought the entire incident under control within 15 minutes of arrival.

No injuries were reported among firefighters or civilians.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
