Tampa Electric Sends 200 Crews to Help States Hit by Winter Storm

Tampa Electric is deploying nearly 200 personnel to support power restoration efforts in Georgia and other southern states affected by a major winter storm forecast to bring freezing rain, ice, and snowfall.

Approximately 60 Tampa Electric line workers and support personnel departed at dawn for Macon, Georgia, to assist Georgia Power. The drive takes six hours. These crews will begin restoring service once conditions are safe and are prepared to remain on site for up to two weeks.

An additional 130 Tampa Electric tree trimming and power line contractors have been sent to support Duke Energy Carolinas and Alabama Power.

A major winter storm is expected to impact most of the United States this weekend, with forecasts indicating freezing rain, icy conditions, and potentially significant snowfall. Widespread power outages are anticipated overnight Saturday and into Sunday in areas outside Florida.

Tampa Electric maintains sufficient crews to respond to any local weather-related issues in its service area.

Tampa Electric participates in the Southeastern Electric Exchange (SEE), a mutual-aid network among utilities that provides trained crews and equipment during storms or emergencies. Host utilities compensate crews supporting restoration efforts in their territories.
