COLLIER COUNTY, FL — December 12, 2025 – Shortly after midnight this morning, a seven-vehicle chain-reaction crash occurred on southbound Interstate 75 at mile marker 96 on Alligator Alley.
The crash began when a semi-truck/trailer, driven by a 41-year-old man from Miami, stopped in the travel lane due to low visibility from smoke. It was then struck from behind by a second semi-truck/trailer driven by a 44-year-old man from Lakeland.
This triggered further collisions involving:
- Third semi-truck/trailer driven by a 61-year-old man from Deerfield Beach
- GMC pickup driven by a 48-year-old man from Boca Raton
- Toyota passenger car driven by a 32-year-old man from Miami
- Chevrolet pickup driven by a 52-year-old man from Madeira Beach, and an Audi passenger car driven by a 49-year-old man from Coral Springs.

The driver of the Chevrolet pickup truck, a 52-year-old male from Madeira Beach, was killed. A 38-year-old female passenger and a 15-year-old male passenger in the Chevrolet pickup truck sustained serious injuries and were transported to a hospital. The driver of the Audi passenger car sustained injuries and was transported to a hospital. None of the drivers of the three semi-trucks/trailers, the GMC pickup truck, or the Toyota passenger car were injured.
The exact sequence of the collisions remains under investigation.
Three additional crashes occurred on northbound Interstate 75 near mile marker 95 after 12:00 a.m.: one involving two semi-trucks/trailers and a pickup truck with no injuries, one involving four passenger vehicles with no injuries, and one involving a single passenger vehicle striking a guardrail with no injuries.
All lanes of I-75 were closed in both directions between mile marker 101 and mile marker 80 for several hours following the crashes. All lanes have since reopened. The incidents remain under investigation. Nothing further at this time.
