Stopped Tesla on I-4 Lane Rear-Ended in Fatal Crash with Semi-Truck

Seminole County, FL – On Monday, October 3, 2005, a fatal crash occurred on Interstate 4 eastbound, east of mile marker 98. A 2020 Tesla Model 3 was stopped in the center lane.

A 2018 International semi-truck and a 2024 Peterbilt semi-truck were traveling eastbound in the center lane, approaching the stopped Tesla. The Peterbilt, ahead of the International, changed lanes to the outside lane. The International’s driver veered left to avoid a collision with the Tesla, but the front of the International struck the rear of the Tesla. The International then ran off the roadway onto the left shoulder, striking the guardrail and overturning onto its right side.

The initial impact caused the Tesla to run off the roadway to the right, where its front struck the left rear of the Peterbilt’s trailer. The Tesla’s driver was pronounced deceased at the scene. The drivers of the International and Peterbilt remained at the scene and were not transported. The crash remains under investigation.
