84-Year-Old and Two Sergeants Rescued After Being Stranded in Fort Drum Marsh
VERO BEACH, Fla. (WFLA)— According to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, an 84-year-old man and two sergeants were rescued after becoming stranded in the Fort Drum Marsh area. The man had gone out to take photos in the conservation area and “lost his way and ultimately become disorientated,” BCSO said.
Deputies with the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office attempted to locate the man using drones and ground searches, but due to the thick brush and the location, it took several hours before he was found. IRCSO Sergeants Luke Keppel and David Flores were able to find the man around 3 a.m., but were unable to make their way back out in the night, BCSO said.
Just before sunrise on Monday, crews were able to locate the victim and the two sergeants before taking multiple trips to get the three. Nothing further at this time.
