65-Year-Old Woman Succumbs to Injuries Days After Crash in Lakeland

LAKELAND, FL — A traffic crash at the intersection of Providence Road and West 14th Street on Saturday, April 18, 2026, resulted in the death of one driver.

According to the Lakeland Police Department, the crash occurred at approximately 9:33 a.m. A brown Chevrolet Malibu was traveling south on Providence Road when a white Lexus SUV, traveling east on West 14th Street, entered the intersection and struck the passenger side of the Chevrolet. The impact redirected the Chevrolet southeast, where it collided with an electric pole. The Lexus then struck the Chevrolet a second time during the sequence.

Lakeland Police Department patrol units, Polk County Fire Rescue, and Lakeland Fire Department personnel responded to the scene and provided life-saving measures. Both drivers were transported to Lakeland Regional Health.

The driver of the Chevrolet sustained critical injuries. Despite medical treatment, she died at the hospital during the morning hours of Monday, April 20, 2026.

Members of the Lakeland Police Department’s Traffic Homicide Unit responded and assumed the investigation. The roadway was closed for approximately four hours while the scene was processed.
