16-Year-Old Fatally Shot by Deputy in Walmart Shoplifting Incident

POINCIANA, FL — The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office provided a further update Friday on the officer-involved shooting that took place Thursday night at a Walmart store in Poinciana.

Detectives have identified and accounted for the two male subjects who were with the deceased suspect during the incident. One is a juvenile, and the other is an adult in his twenties.

The two males have not been arrested. No charges have been filed against these two individuals.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) continues to investigate the officer-involved shooting. Sheriff’s officials stated they are not far enough into the investigation to speculate about the involvement of the two males or any potential charges. If circumstances change, an update will be provided.

As previously noted, the suspect who was shot and killed is a juvenile who turned 16 years old on December 30, 2025, and resided in Poinciana.

Due to the ongoing FDLE investigation, the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office will not release additional information at this time, including Walmart surveillance video. Body-worn camera footage and other public records will be released once FDLE reaches an appropriate stage in the investigation. The incident remains under active review by FDLE.

According to OCSO, the incident unfolded around 7:45 p.m. at the Walmart located at 904 Cypress Parkway in Poinciana when Walmart’s loss prevention officer alerted the deputy that three males had concealed merchandise in their clothing and were heading toward the store exit without paying.

The deputy confronted the suspects, who then attempted to flee. One of the males produced a handgun and, while running, approached other customers in the store. In response to the immediate threat posed by the armed suspect, the deputy fired his weapon, striking the individual. The suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene.
