BRANDON, FL– A man was found dead Friday afternoon after a shooting inside Dick’s House of Sport at the Brandon Exchange shopping center, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to the store at approximately 4:28 p.m. on July 10 after a store employee called 911 to report a shooting inside the business. Within four minutes, deputies arrived and located a deceased man inside a fitting room. Two minutes later, deputies detained two individuals believed to be involved in the incident.
Investigators said the three individuals entered the store together and went into a fitting room. Moments later, employees reported hearing a single gunshot. Surveillance video later showed two of the individuals running from the store into the parking lot.
At least 33 deputies, including members of the Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit, responded to the scene. Despite the investigation, the Brandon Exchange shopping center remained open and continued normal operations through its regular closing time.
“This is an active investigation,” Sheriff Chad Chronister said, adding that there is “absolutely no tolerance for violence in Hillsborough County, especially in places where families gather to shop and spend time together.”
No additional information about the victim or the detained individuals has been released. The investigation remains ongoing.
