LAKELAND, FL — U.S. Rep. Byron Donalds, the Republican candidate for Florida governor, is coming to Polk County next month to speak at Polk State College as part of the college’s Constitution Day events.
Polk State will host Donalds and Florida Sen. Rosalind Osgood on Sept. 17, providing students and community members opportunities to hear from elected officials as part of Polk State President Anastasios Kamoutsas’ “Where Eagles Soar” initiative and focus on civic engagement, according to the college.
Donalds will serve as the keynote speaker from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. in Room 1100 of the Lakeland Technology Building on Polk State’s Lakeland Campus.
Osgood, a Democrat representing District 32 in the Florida Senate, will speak earlier that day from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the Winter Haven Fine Arts Lobby on the Winter Haven Campus.
“We believe our students benefit immensely from hearing directly from elected officials,” Kamoutsas said. “Constitution Day offers a vital opportunity to reaffirm the importance of civic engagement, especially for our students who represent the next generation of leaders in Florida.” Both events will include food for Polk State students who present their college IDs.
College officials said the gatherings will provide an opportunity to reflect on the Constitution and its continuing role in public policy and American society. Polk State described the events as a thoughtful, nonpartisan setting designed to promote civic engagement and informed citizenship.
